Why I Teach Differently
Tracey Collett - Founder & Lead EducatorIn 2005, I took my first permanent makeup training. At the time, the only course I could find was just two days long. I practiced on fruit and fake skin, but I never had the opportunity to work on a live model before trying to begin on my own. I quickly realized that I was not truly prepared. It wasn’t the career that failed me - I simply hadn’t been given the strong foundation or hands-on experience I needed to feel confident and succeed.
So I started over. I took beginner training again, and this time I found an amazing educator who became much more than a teacher. She became my coach, my friend, and a mentor I could turn to for years. I learned firsthand how important it is in this profession to have someone you trust enough to call - even when the question feels small or silly.
That experience shaped the educator I became. After 11 years of teaching, some of my greatest joy has come from watching students grow into confident artists and build successful careers and businesses of their own. I grow close to my students, I care about their progress, and I want them to feel comfortable reaching out when they need guidance.
Fine Arts PMU Academy was built to provide the kind of education, hands-on experience, mentorship, and support I wish I had received from the very beginning.
